Hello :)
Thank you for your question on Wefugees.
According to my research, it is also possible to prove the required funding in another way. You should find out in advance which alternatives apply to you, as the regulations differ for each country ( https://***.schengenvisainfo.***/germany/visa/blocked-account-germany/).
Instead of a blocked account, you could also bring the following evidence:
or - Scholarship Certificate from a recognized scholarship provider.
or - Letter of Commitment (Verpflichtungserklärung): Through this document, a permanent resident of Germany (a relative or a friend) can guarantee they will cover all your expenses during your time as a student.
or - A bank guarantee." or - Scholarship Certificate from a recognized scholarship provider.
or - Letter of Commitment (Verpflichtungserklärung): Through this document, a permanent resident of Germany (a relative or a friend) can guarantee they will cover all your expenses during your time as a student.
or - A bank guarantee.
I got my information from this website: https://***.studying-in-germany.org/germany-blocked-account-foreign-students/
You can get more information here: https://***.auswaertiges-amt.de/en/sperrkonto/388600
However, instead of a blocked account, it cannot simply be a bank account.
I'm linking our expert @meike here again to double check on this statement. Also, if I were you, I would check again with the International Office of the university, they will be happy to help you with your questions in most cases.
here is a collection of other funding options: https://handbookgermany.de/en/student-finance
I hope I could help you with my answer and wish you all the best. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are happy to help you.
With kind regards Saskia Miersch
