I finished my first year of Ausbildung as dental assistant but I don't want to continue it anymore and I want to apply for University. My question is that my residence now is based on Ausbildung if I get accepted for University then I just address to Auslanderbehörde to change to student residence or I have to get student visa from the Consulate in my country or my country consulate  here in Germany. And do I need to show a block account with 10,000 euro also or a bank statement with enough money is sufficient. Please let me know if it's possible to cancel the Ausbildung based on changing and what will be the procedure.

Hi @Lily

Yes, you can change to a residence permit for studying without finishing your Ausbildung. You apply for it at the Ausländerbehörde once you have proof of acceptance to university. You do not need to apply for it at a consulate.

When showing you have enough money, then you need a blocked account. A bank statement with enough money is not enough. However, there are other options for financing such as someone else providing a commitment to financially support you (Verpflichtungserklärung) or getting a scholarship. This site has more information about this:
