My Fiktionsbescheinigung is over and I travel soon, it’s 5 months and I have no answer in Berlin.

Hi I made the paperwork in Dresden and then moved to Berlin. I registered in the city and then contacted immediately the Berlin's foreigners office. I’ve been waiting for 5 months and I’ve asked several times about my card. Now I have to travel for work and I don’t know how I can get another Fiktionshbescheinigung as mine is expiring on 10.02 and my travel is on 23.02. I’m desperate. Thank you very much.

Welcome to the Wefugees Community and I am sorry to hear about your struggles.

Many immigration offices have to deal with a high workload in these days and, unfortunately, procedures can take some time.

First of all, please have a closer **** which type of fictional certificate ("Fiktionsbescheinigung") you are currently holding. As we discussed in this thread and also here, you are in general allowed to travel if the fictional certificate was issued according to section 81(4). If it was issued according to section 81 (3) instead, it is not possible to travel for the time being.

In that case, I recommend you to contact a migration counselling office in Berlin to ask for some support - maybe they can help with the communication and eventually speeding up the process. Sometimes there is also a delay in the transfer of the files from one immigration office to another. Did Dresden already send your file to Berlin?

Please let us know if you need help in finding counselling services (they are usually offered free of charge) i.e. by the Diakonie, Caritas, AWO etc. or if you have any further questions.

Hi, thank you so very much for your kind response. In fact, I checked and the certificate is according to 81(4). But then, at the end of the document it clearly states that “the certificate will become invalid on the expiry date stated on the adhesive label (page 5)” which is the date before my travel and the reason why I’m super worried that I won’t be able to enter back Germany. Would you be so kind to help me contact a counseling service?
Another thing I’ll try is going to the offices next week, although there’s no chance to get in without an appointment and there’re no appointments available. It’s such a mess :( I’ve contacted Dresden as well, the last email I got said that I should contact Berlin so they can send my folder, I did that, but this was last year. I contacted Dresden again several times this year and had no answer either.

Hello and thank you for your reply. You are right. I am sorry! I didn’t read carefully enough. If your fictional certificate expired, it will be problematic. Maybe you can try to see the clearing office which is located in the Berlin immigration office buildings. It opens on Monday 7:30 am and is run by counseling NGOs.
