I am sorry to hear that you find yourself in a difficult situation. Changing the lawyer or hiring a second one for one case is sometimes making things even more complicated and costly. However, I also experienced that there is very often a lack of communication between lawyers and their clients - especially due to, for instance, complex and very long procedures and sometimes also because of language barriers. If you are very unhappy with your lawyer's performance or you can not trust him/her anymore, it could help to dicuss your situation with an expert in a (migration) counselling office. There are organisations everywhere in Germany which offer free of charge and confidential services. I am sure they can support you in also having an eye on the lawyer's activities and explain procedures to you in more detail.
