Hi!

I have subsidiary protection for myself and two children. I live in a dorf from the Mecklenburg Lake District in the state of MV and I want to move to Wismar, MV. I have a cousin who lives there and his English and German skills ar way better than mine, so he is very helpful and I believe that being close to him is imperative for my integration in Germany. How do I proceed on moving from Mecklenburg Lake District Jobcentre to Northwest Mecklenburg District Jobcentre?

Hello @sarah_love

thank you for posing your question in the Wefugees Community.

First you should aks your foreigners office (Ausländerbehörde) if you are allowed to move to Wismar with your subsidiary protection. Because in some of the states in Germany if you have subsidiary protection, you are allowed to move to the other cities inside the same state.

  1. If you are allowed from the foreigners office to move to Wismar, you should find a flat in Wismar and before signing the contract for the renting of the flat you should talk to your jobcenter and the jobcenter in Wismar, to your foreigners office and then to the foreigners office in Wismar and if they all agree then you sign the contract for the flat and move to Wismar.

  2. If your foreigners office says that with your subsidiary protection you are not allowed to move to Wismar, you should write an application with good reasons for moving to Wismar and submit it to your foreigners office. The reason you have mentioned above is not strong enough to allow you to move to Wismar but still you can try it if you don't have one of the following reasons or similar to the following reasons. According to the residence law of Germany if you have one of the following reasons, you will be allowed to move to another city in any state of Germany.

  • You or your spouse, your registered partner or your minor child has an employment in another city which is subject to social security contributios (at least 15 hours per week and salary of at least 710 Euro net) or an apprenticeship or study/ies in another city

  • Your spouse, your registered partner or your minor child lives in another city.

  • If you have a hardship case (härtefall). A hardship case lies above all ('above all' means that it can also exist in other situations) if according to the youth welfare office (Jugendamt) services and measures of child and youth welfare (SGB VIII) would be affected or if for other urgent personal reasons the takeover by another city or state has been promised or if there are other similar to the above reasons for you.

Other reasons which have good chances are for example, special care needs for people with disabilities, violence by the partner, or permanent and sustainable improvement in the care of the people which need care because of their age or because of their illness or disability.
