Hi Wefugees,

I was alone and transferred to Heim (shared apartment) 1 month ago but I was entering asylum 6 months already. I finished my 2nd interview already and waiting for result. I request ausländerbehörde for study integration course and currently waiting for their answer.

I'm having problem with roommate because of difference culture, selfishness and no respect of my sleeping time.

I talked with apartment caretaker but they couldn’t do anything to help. But I heard some refugees with help from social can move to private apartment to live alone and study Deutsch course and prepare for their career plan.

I really want to request move to private apartment so I can focus and speed up on my Deutsch leaning and prepare my career plan.

Thank you.

Hi @Mr.H

I do not understand what you mean by being at first alone. Do you mean you had your own room in the first reception centre (Erstaufnahmeeinrichtung) before being transferred to the Heim? Or that you had your own apartment?

You can make an application to be housed away from the Heim in an apartment from the Sozialamt. This application is called ‘Antrag auf dezentrale Unterbringung’ or ‘Antrag auf Unterbringung in einer Einzelunterkunft‘. There is no particular form you have to use but this organisation has an example of such a form:

https://***.fluechtlingsrat-thr.de/arbeitshilfen/antragshilfen

Please note that the rules around accommodation for asylum seekers are not exactly the same throughout Germany. The above example is from the state of Thüringen so you have to adapt it to whatever region you are in.

Private accommodation is generally only allowed for people who are considered especially vulnerable. These include elderly people, single parents, pregnant women, LGBT individuals, people with medical conditions or who have experienced torture or violence. If you do not fall into the category of especially vulnerable, then it is unlikely you can move. It’s still worth trying in that case but you should provide detailed reasons for wanting to move. In your application, detail your study hours, any lack of place to study (e.g. no study room in the Heim or library nearby), and the disturbance to your studies that you experience (how many people share with you, the hours they come and go, the noise etc.). I advise against basing your argument on your roommate having a ‘different culture’.

There will be social workers in the Heim or who come there regularly who can assist you with an application.

Best,

Hi Éanna,

Thank you very much for your explanation. I was alone mean that I was not like families. And from what I noticed, refugee with group is process faster and better.

I will **** up for more information about the form you told me.

My roommate not respect anyone. He turns on the room light when he come back from work around 23:00, but when I study with my desk light at night, he requests me to turn it off because he can't sleep. He sometimes uses blender around midnight, use vacuum cleaner at Sunday evening till the neighbour come knock on the door to tell him and he said, he sleeps in the morning. And so much more problems. When I'm try to talk with him, he keeps saying don't understand what I'm saying. I understand houseowner try to help, but they have limitation and I’m try to learn by myself to solve my problem other ways.

Thank again Éanna, your explanation help me so much.

Wish you all the best.
