Can I receive an "Aufenthaltserlaubnis 18a" if I did a "Quereinsteiger als Straßenbahnfahrer"

Hello,

I hold an "Aufenthaltstitel 25 Abs. 3 Abschiebungsverbot" since September 2023 but I want to change it and get an unlimited residence permit but reach 60 payments of pension insurance unfortunately is too much to wait. So what can I do? I did a "Quereinsteiger als Straßenbahnfahrer" successfully and now I'm working in this position. At this moment I already pay 24 fees of pension insurance (Rentenversischerung). I was able to do this "Quereinsteiger" because I received positive recognition of my professional qualification by IBAS due to my studies in an University abroad. So I really want to know what are my options? I really want to be sure to stay here with my family and with this residence permit I feel that unfortunately it Isn't a warranty and now with the rise of the AFD in politics I fear for the safety of my family in long term.

If I understand correctly, you work in a qualified job as skilled worker now and your qualification was formally recognised by the authorities, right? This would be a condition for the 18a residence permit. For a full list of the requirements you may also see this website by the Berlin authorities.

According to this table by GGUA, applying for a residence permit according to 18a should be in general possible when holding one according to section 25 (3).

I recommend you to contact a migration counselling office for individual and more detailed advice. Together you can assess your situation and options.

Dear @Meike, Certanly my qualification was formally recognized by the authorities as Lawyer. Due I'm a Recognized in Germany, I was able to do something called "Quereinsteiger als Straßenbahnfahrer" that give me the chance to change my career in a short time and now I working in this area. I would like to know if my new German qualification would be valid and recognized to get this residence permit and then be able in future to get the residence called "Niederlassungserlaubnis".
