The "Gewerbeschein" is the business license and is needed if you want to open a business/work self-employed. We discussed a very similar one here before. Please follow the link for the respective discussion and my colleague's expert opinion. I am afraid it will be hardly possible or at least very complicated to be self-employed as long as the asylum procedure is still pending. According to Handbook Germany it is not possible at all. However, I am happy to hear that you are allowed to work as an employee in the meantime.
