Hi,

my mother is 83 years old and she recently had a cardiovascular accident and this has caused her loss of mobility, vision and hearing. I am 55 years old and I suffer from Polyneuropathy Diabetes and because of this I have nerve damage and it generates a lot of pain and in my hands and feet several times a day, this makes it difficult for me to care for my mother properly, however my daughter and her husband live in another district they are asylum seekers still waiting for an invitation to the administrative court and I would like them to move with us and also they wil join to our family nucleus (to live in one apartament together) and in this way they can help us with daily tasks, appointments and being able to be together since they are the only family we have in Germany. I would like to know please what are the steps to follow to make such request? thank you.

Hi @Florinda

Your daughter should make a written request with the local Sozialamt to be given permission to move to live with you. The request is called ‘Antrag auf Umverteilung’ in German and can be granted for humanitarian reasons.

In this request, she should clearly detail the health conditions you and your mother have, the difficulties this is causing you and the help that your daughter and her husband would be able to provide in caring for your mother.

It is important to consider whether your current apartment is suitable for housing all of you. If not, depending on your own circumstances, you may have to request assistance in being housed in a larger accommodation.

The request must be written in German. There should be social workers in the district where your daughter is that can assist her with this. They will also know the specific office of the Sozialamt to which the request should be submitted.

Best,
