What do I have to keep in mind when looking for accommodation?

I am thinking about moving to another city here in Germany sometimes next year. Before I move, could you tell me how to find accommodation? What do I need to know before moving?

I have added a brochure provided by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (Arabic and English version). See page 50 following to find out about accommodation.
