Hello, I am in a bit of a situation. My wife, my sister, and her daughter fled Ukraine a few weeks ago and now I am planning to join them and stay with my family. What do I need to know? Thank you for the answer.

HI :) If they are "close relatives", yes you can stay together.

Close relatives exist if your relatives were living with you on 24.02.2022 or if they were wholly or mainly dependent on you as persons in need of care. Your children who have come of age while fleeing to Germany also remain with you as "close relatives".

Please inform the Aliens' Registration Office about existing family relationships at an early stage.

At present, it is not easy for the authorities to have a complete overview of family relationships and to take them into account.

I will be happy to help with any further questions! And hope you are well.

Kind regards

Dear @bun7

Also from my side a warm Welcome to the Wefugees Community and thank you for reaching out to us.

May I add to Lidia's answer that all Ukrainians and third-country nationals fleeing as a result of the war to Germany and who were living in Ukraine prior the 24.2.22 are legally allowed to enter and stay in Germany without any visa until end of August 2022.

I hope this information is useful to you and please also don' t hesitate to get back to us with any further questions.

All the best,

Meike
