Can I register for temporary protection in Germany (Ukraine, 24 paragraph) and later move to another bundesland?

We are Ukrainian refugees, we have an apartment till 1 may in one city, and after 1st may in the another city. Can we register in the local migration center in Germany and later move to another city?

thanks for reaching out to us. If you're not sure yet where you're gong to live for a longer period in the future, you should be careful with a registration, as a registration will trigger a residency requirement. So please choose your place of residence first, if possible, and register then at that place.

Hi @mbeon-Christine, does it mean it is or is not possible to move to another Bundesland after they are registered? and are there any downsides if they don't register? I have the same question for another family here

this depends on various factors:
1. Where do they want tp live for a longer period?
2. Do they need financial support? In this case, most municipalities want to see a registration, but we cannot give a general answer for all of Germany.

They could move to another Bundesland, e.g. if they find a workplace there and get independent of social assistance.
