Hi @Yaz :)

Yes, refugees are allowed to work abroad, but there are limitations as well.

You have to stay in France for a minimum of 5 years. After that you can apply for a long-term residence title in other EU member states (like Austria). But you are allowed to move/work abroad without this residence title after 5 years as well.

This is where I got this information from: https://***.nds-fluerat.org/leitfaden/10-fluechtlinge-mit-aufenthaltserlaubnis-nach-25-abs-1-oder-abs-2-satz-1-alternative-1-aufenthg/11-2-wohnen-umziehen-und-reisen/

Here is the underlying EU law that the article above refers to: ****://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/HTML/?uri=CELEX:02003L0109-20110520&from=DE

All the best

I tried to translate the web-link attached into English and read it. The directive mentioned is about COUNCIL DIRECTIVE 2003/109/EC of 25 November 2003 ''concerning the status of third-country nationals who are long-term residents'' related issue. on the other hand the first link is about ''11.2 Housing, moving and traveling'' as a refugee in Germany (according to google translation). In all cases it only give answer to those who stayed more than five years ( and fullfil to be called 'long-term residents'.
But what if a refugee doesnot stay such long time( if he has no 'long-term residence' ?) I am a refugee in Denmark and when I get a job in France , I was asked to bring 'work permit' for France. So can any one give suggestions on this issue (relevant laws etc?)
Dear Lea,

Thank you very much for the informative answer. I have a similar situation with some differences however. I would greatly appreciate your help if possible.

I have lived in Germany for 3 years and 8 months (master student then intern then jobseeker then professional engineer).
After that I left Germany and lived in the UK for 6 and a half years (3 and a half years as a PhD student then 3 years as a refugee which is my current state).

The total of my stay in the EU is just short of 10 years but as you see it is not so simple.

Am I allowed to work in Germany and do I qualify for a permanent residence permit?

Best wishes,
Oni
