I applied for asylum in Germany and now I am living in a house for refugees in Berlin but I would like to go to some other city, cause I know someone in Cologne, is it possible?

Hello Adile,

I looked up if you are allowed to move from your refugee camp to another city. In the articles below, it is said, that you are not allowed to move from your camp in the first six weeks to three months.

But in article 49 it is mentioned that if you have a medical/health reason (for example a specialized doctor in cologne) or any other exceptional case, then you COULD have a chance to move from your current camp.

§ 47 Aufenthalt in Aufnahmeeinrichtungen
 
(1) Ausländer, die den Asylantrag bei einer Außenstelle des Bundesamtes zu stellen haben (§ 14 Abs. 1), sind verpflichtet, bis zu sechs Wochen, längstens jedoch bis zu drei Monaten, in der für ihre Aufnahme zuständigen Aufnahmeeinrichtung zu wohnen. Das Gleiche gilt in den Fällen des § 14 Absatz 2 Satz 1 Nummer 2, wenn die Voraussetzungen dieser Vorschrift vor der Entscheidung des Bundesamtes entfallen.

(2) Sind Eltern eines minderjährigen ledigen Kindes verpflichtet, in einer Aufnahmeeinrichtung zu wohnen, so kann auch das Kind in der Aufnahmeeinrichtung wohnen, auch wenn es keinen Asylantrag gestellt hat.

(3) Für die Dauer der Pflicht, in einer Aufnahmeeinrichtung zu wohnen, ist der Ausländer verpflichtet, für die zuständigen Behörden und Gerichte erreichbar zu sein.

(4) Die Aufnahmeeinrichtung weist den Ausländer innerhalb von 15 Tagen nach der Asylantragstellung möglichst schriftlich und in einer Sprache, deren Kenntnis vernünftigerweise vorausgesetzt werden kann, auf seine Rechte und Pflichten nach dem Asylbewerberleistungsgesetz hin. Die Aufnahmeeinrichtung benennt in dem Hinweis nach Satz



§ 49 Entlassung aus der Aufnahmeeinrichtung
 
(1) Die Verpflichtung, in der Aufnahmeeinrichtung zu wohnen, ist zu beenden, wenn eine Abschiebungsandrohung vollziehbar und die Abschiebung kurzfristig nicht möglich ist oder wenn dem Ausländer eine Aufenthaltserlaubnis nach § 24 des Aufenthaltsgesetzes erteilt werden soll.

(2) Die Verpflichtung kann aus Gründen der öffentlichen Gesundheitsvorsorge sowie aus sonstigen Gründen der öffentlichen Sicherheit oder Ordnung oder aus anderen zwingenden Gründen beendet werden.
