Hello everyone, last year I took part of a student exchange program in Germany, and I did everything I needed to do. I received my student visa but it did not cover the entire time I was going to be in Germany, so I made an appointment at the Ausländerbehörde but I never got my appointment. Two months before my departure I was trying to get an emergency appointment, but nothing worked. Eventually I went to the office and I got someone's attention and they gave me the document. I was given the deadline and I left Germany and went back to my home country. The problem is that I forgot about the document, so I never turned it in, and I just found it again today. I'm reading up on it and I'm worried that I won't be able to go back because people online are saying that I would get arrested if I went back to Germany. What can I do to prevent this? I wanted to go back next year and I'm worried I won't be able to get a visa. Any info is greatly appreaciated!

Dear @maxgracia

Welcome at Wefugees and thank you for your question.

I recommend you to get in touch with the immigration office (Ausländerbehörde) which issued the "Grenzübertrittsbescheinigung". You can explain the situation and submit any other proof that you left Germany (flight tickets, copy of your passport stamp or something like this). I don`t think it will be a big issue. Do you agree with me dear @mbeon-Éanna or @mbeon-fardeen

All the best,

Meike
