Dear @Hakeem,

Welcome back to the Wefugees Community and thank you for your question.

I heard of cases in which, for instance, an asylum seeker in Germany married his fiancee in Syria through a proxy marriage. I was trying to make some research for more reliable information and details, but I didn't find it that easy. On this website a lawyer is explaining that in general proxy marriages may be recognised in Germany. I also found documents published by German embassies, explaining the requirements and the procedure for a family reunification and mentioning the requirement to present the respective power of attorney in case you married your spouse through a proxy. This leads to the assumption that in some form it will be recognised. However, I will link two of our experts here as well. Dear @mbeon-Ruth or @mbe-on_Zsigó, can you give further information or reliable sources in this matter?

All the best,

Meike
