Respectful Members,

I received a letter today informing and asking me  for participation in City Council Election. I have a Niederlassungserlaubnis and am a recognized refugee. I want to ask If I am allowed to vote? And if not could the office have made a mistake?

Your prompt reply would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Dear @AliA2k,

Welcome back to the Wefugees community and thank you for reaching out to us.

As far as I know and as I also read here, only German citizens are allowed to vote in Germany. There is an exception for EU-citizens in local elections though. Unfortunately, third country nationals are excluded from elections in general. Maybe you can talk to the office which sent the invitation for the purpose?

All the best,

Meike
