Dear @Mariamavais,
Thanks for reaching out to the wefugees community!
First of all great that you have decided to take on the German citizenship which is a big step! I am happy to help you follow through on this decision.
In order to get the german citizenship you normally have to have been in Germany for 8 years but a shorter time is possible if particular efforts have been made namely the successful participation at an integration course (7 years) and/or extraordinary good german skills (6 years). Besides those preconditions you have to have an independent source of income (no welfare) to cover the cost of living, no criminal record and a passed citizenship test.
After five years you are entitled to receive a permanent settlement permit (Niederlassungserlaubnis) which means you are allowed to live and work in Germany indefinitely. Maybe that is what you had in mind at the appointment with the Ausländeramt? The preconditions for that are 60 months of contributions to the German pension scheme (or a comparable pension scheme) which is equivalent to 5 years of work in Germany. Also you have to speak German on a B1-level (with certificate) and again no criminal record.
