Hello all,

i am 27 y.o. electronics engineer from turkey and working for 1.5 as enginner in DEU. i was rejected one time. i have of course contradicted and now still waiting for an appointment from court.that means i am still in Asylverfahren. currently living in Dortmund in my own apartment. i am also in a relationship with a girl who ist German citizen. i have had a valid pass in the beginning but within 1,5 years it is already expired. the good news is that expired pass and valid ID card are still being kept by Foreign Authority and i think i can get them for specifically this purpose. i also have birth and no impediment certificate. My question is : can i apply for marriage with these document to Standesamt? how likely can they reject or accept our application?

i really appreciation from now for your answers. it is very complicated and i am also very nervous on this case.

Dear @Abdullah42

Thank you for sharing your question with the Wefugee Community!

First of all, if you are still in the asylum procedure, you should not go to the Turkish embassy to extend your passport.

Also in Germany, in general, you will need a valid passport to marry (next to the documents you already mentioned). However, every civil servant in the "Standesamt" can decide independently how to procede in the individual case. You may be lucky, that your documents will be accepted as they are. You should also explain, that you are not allowed to ask for any service from the Turkish embassy as an asylum seeker. I would recommend you to contact your local Standesamt or maybe even talk to some different authorities (i.e. in another city/region) to discuss your situation.

Good luck and please get back to us with any further questions!

All the best,

Meike

Hello Meike,
Yesterday i was at Standesamt Dortmund. the employee on the related department was completely infriendly and seemed unsatisfied because i am asking for info. Whenever i ask sth, she answered me very agressively and almost shouted and also said no you need passport. Otherweise it does not work. i had to leave there with a huge dissappoinment. As a result, she means it work only with valid passport not and ID card from non-EU country.only passport is acceptable. which means i cannot have that at the moment. i have to wait until the end of my asylum process. I will also write a complaint on Standesamt Website for her behaivour. it was awful. it made me feel 2nd or 3rd class person.
Dear @Abdullah42, I am very sorry to hear about your negative experience and I think it is a good idea to complain about their behavior as it is also their job to inform people. I can understand that you are really frustrated now, but I would still like to encourage you to maybe try to get some advice from another Standesamt. Please let as know about the results and good luck with everything! Meike
