Hi,

I am refugee from Syria. I have been living in NRW,Germany since April 2014 and successfully got a German permanent residence on September,2017. When can I apply for German citizenship? Is it after completion of six years or seven years?

Dear Nasreen,

If you say "permanent residence" you are talking about the so-called "Niederlassungserlaubnis"?
There is no clear answer to your question, as we have to differentiate between the "right to obtain the citizenship" (the conditions you would find on page 19 of the brochure:
https://***.bmi.bund.de/SharedDocs/downloads/DE/veroeffentlichungen/themen/verfassung/wege-zur-einbuergerung.pdf?__blob=publicationFile&v=3) and the discretion of the "Ausländerbehörde" (different conditions would apply for that).

If you want to explain your case a bit more in detail, we would be happy to support.

Best wishes,

Meike

Hi Meike,

Thanks a lot for the response. Yes, by permanent residence permit I mean "Niederlassungserlaubnis". I reside in Wuppertal.

Thanks :)
