Hello @Debbie

I am not aware of parts of Germany where there are two separate authorities responsible for naturalisation. To my knowledge, there is one office called something like ‘Einbürgerungsbehörde’ or ‘Einbürgerungsabteilung’ which is part of the local administration, usually as part of the immigration office (Ausländerbehörde).

If there are two such offices, then the only reason I can think of is that they are responsible for different types of naturalisation, for example:

  • As a foreigner who has lived 5 years in Germany
  • As a spouse of a German citizen
  • As a descendant of a person with German citizenship ‘durch Abstammung’

It would make little sense to have two separate authorities or parts of the local administration responsible for exactly the same procedure. If you wish me to **** at the procedure in the specific area you are in, I am happy to do so.

The time it takes for naturalisation is on the one hand based on the number of people applying in that particular area but also on the specifics of each individual case.

Best,

Éanna
