I got Duldung in Germany and I want to marry my German girlfriend. The Standesamt is asking for passport and I am worried if I submit my passport then they will deport me and I wouldn't be allowed to get married s in Germany. Please advise should I submit passport or not owing to duldung case.

Dear @Ganesh,

Welcome back at Wefugees and thank you for reaching out to us.

Unfortunately, the matter you describe is not easy to answer or to solve. If you are holding a Duldung you are actually obliged to submit the passport to the immigration office. We discussed here before, that the registry office (Standesamt) will most probably contact the immigration office as well as soon as you start the marriage procedure. It is quite a dilemma for the time being and I highly recommend you to consult a lawyer or at least an experienced counselling office on this. Did you collect all of the requirements documents to marry in Germany (see also our blog on this)? Without knowing your individual situation in detail it is hardly possible to give further advice here.

Would you agree dear @mbeon-fardeen or @mbeon-Éanna?

All the best,

Meike
