If you have a child with a German native as a refugee when do you apply for residence permit is it after everything is cleared out by Jugendamt? What is the process and can you also apply resident permit before you cancel the Refugee case? Kindly respond if anyone who went through this.

You need the following documents to apply for a resident permit
1. The child’s birth certificate ( make sure you have your name on it as a father or mother )
2. Vaterschaft
3. Sorgerecht ( very important)
4. Kinder Reisepass or Deutsche passport of the child
Hallo Extension,

The ABH asked me to bring the mentioned documents you stated there including the child passport's photos but then how will l get resident permit what is the process? Do l give them the child's original documents or copies? They first check my German child's documents and l receive resident permit automatic? Kindly share the process

Hi @Simi

I am not sure what you mean by everything being cleared out by Jugendamt. If there are questions from the Jugendamt about the paternity of a child, then these have to be clarified first. Once you have a recognition of paternity (Vaterschaftsanerkennung) you can apply for a residence permit as parent of a German child.

For this type of permit you do not need to cancel your asylum application.
