Hello,

I would like to ask if it is possible to apply for Einbürgerung after living in Germany for 8 years and have A2 German language certificate. If my application for Einbürgerung is rejected due to lack of B1 German language, what would happen? Would I still be able to apply for prolongation of the Blaue Karte and take the B1 German language to apply again for Einbürgerung?

Thank you in advance.

Dear @Behnam,

A B1 level of German is a central requirement to become a German citizen. The only exceptions that are made are if there are certain medical conditions, disbaility or due to advanced age.

You can renew the Blue Card as long as the requirements for it are met. You can then of course work on achieving B1 and then re-apply for citizenship.

Best,

Éanna
