Greetings to you, please if someone request for asylum in EU country and when the asylum is still on processing. Can that asylum seeker marry an eu citizen from another European union country that is not the country where I'm seeking asylum during the procedure of the asylum? For example I'm asking for asylum in Germany and it is still in processing, I'm waiting for the decision on it then I decided to get married to a french citizen in Germany. What will happen if I do that please.

Hi Sukky, Welcome to Wefugees.Thank you for your interesting question. If I understand it correctly, the person from France also lives in Germany? Is the person registered here? I will link our experts @mbeon-éanna and @meike here. Also, I found a similar question on our website: https://***.wefugees.de/811611/how-can-i-register-a-marriage-in-germany-if-i-married-abroad?show=811611#q811611 Here is an article about everything you need to know about marriage registration in Germany. https://handbookgermany.de/en/marriage We'll get back to you as soon as we have more information. No my girlfriend lives in her country which is France  while I am living in Germany  here as asylum seeker. I want to know if my asylum is negative can i move to France  after marrying my French girlfriend?
Thank you, but there's a little problem, when I came to Germany , I used a passport that was not mine to get visa. I told them when I applied for the asylum but I don't know if I can use my real passport to apply for the family reunion visa after my marriage if I want to go to France  as they collected my fingerprints at the German embassy when I was coming to Germany . And I'm sure they will take fingerprints again when I want to apply for family reunification visa to France  and they will see I've applied for schengen visa with another different passport earlier. Please what do I need to do about this or it won't be a problem as I am an asylum seeker?

Hi @Sunkky09,

As an asylum seeker you can get married. You need to contact your local registry office (Standesamt) and request this. They will need at least the following documents from both of you: passport, birth certificate, certificate of eligibility to marry.

If you are married and your asylum case is negative, you can apply for a visa with the French embassy to go and live there as a family member of a French citizen. I do not know, however, what exactly the requirements for this are from the French authorities.

Best,

Éanna
