my fiancé and I are currently working on getting him a visa to marry here. I am a german citizen, he's living in Syria. Among the required documents I came across the Verpflichtungserklärung (declaration of commitment) to ensure his financial safety. I read there about a monthly income of at least 2500€. Unfortunately I am a student, my master-studies will require at least 2 more years to be finished. I am living off my savings but am looking for a student-job to gather some experience within my profession.
Now we are really worried that they will turn down the application for a Verpflichtungserklärung and in the end the whole visa. There is still quite a lot left from my savings to at least cover the first year. Do you know if savings (stored in a bank account, I can proof that they exist) are accepted?

Sie müssen finanziell in der Lage sein, die Kosten des Lebensunterhalts übernehmen zu können. Die Höhe des monatlichen Mindest-Nettoeinkommens richtet sich nach Ihrem Familienstand und den daraus resultierenden Unterhaltsverpflichtungen sowie dem beantragten Aufenthaltszweck.
Die Mindest-Nettoeinkommen betragen zum Beispiel für ein Visum:

- zum Studium / für eine berufliche Ausbildung: 2.380 ohne Unterhaltsverpflichtung / 3.330 Euro bei Unterhaltsverpflichtung für 1 Person / 3.753 Euro bei Unterhaltsverpflichtung für 2 Personen
- zur Arbeitsplatzsuche oder Eheschließung: 2.500 Euro ohne Unterhaltsverpflichtung / 3.470 Euro bei Unterhaltsverpflichtung für 1 Person / 3.840 Euro bei Unterhaltsverpflichtung für 2 Personen
