Dear @Chanda,
Welcome to the Wefugees Community and thank you for reaching out to us.
The procedure for the acknowledgment of paternity at the Jugendamt may vary from institution to institution. Especially in these times of the pandemic, it can be quite difficult to finish the process, as public officials partly don’t work at the office but at home instead etc.
I think it will also depend on the condition if a Jugendamt is very busy etc. The first step might be to ask for an appointment, as both parents need to be present and sign the declaration. Please keep in mind that you may also need to bring a translator for the appointment. From my experience, the responsible public official most probably is asking you to send the required documents in advance (birth certificate of the father, registration/Meldebestätigung, ID of the parents and maybe of the translator as well etc.). They might already want to know from you, if you also plan to declare the shared custody too.
Once you are at the appointment, it also depends on the individual case. Sometimes you can take the respective document home immediately - otherwise they will send it to you. The more information they have in forehand the likelier they prepared the documents already, from my experience.
I hope this helps and please don’t hesitate to get back to us with any further questions.
All the best,
Meike
