Visa renewal appointment after the expiration of the visa

Hi everyone,

One of my friends has got his visa renewal appointment (refugee) in late August whereas his visa will expire at the beginning of the same month. He is wondering whether this issue will create any problem in the future when he will be applying for a settlement permit or so. He is worried that this issue may be regarded as discontinuation of legal stay in Germany in the future.

Your kind advises on the subject matter will be highly appreciated.

Welcome back to the Wefugees Community and thank you for your question.

I don't think this will cause any problems in the future, since he also applied for a new appointment before the residence permit expired, right? In these days immigration offices most likely need more time for offering appointments and dealing with the applications as they are also struggling with the Corona regulations etc.

In Berlin, for instance, the immigration office/Ausländerbehörde introduced an online-registration tool for people whose residence permit/toleration (Duldung) is expiring. The print/PDF of this form serves as temporary extension until the immigration office invited for a renewal appointment and can also be shown to the Jobcenter etc.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, that individual has communicated with the Ausländeramt for the appointment well before the expiration of the visa, Job Center asked him to show the confirmation email of the appointment to transfer the monthly cost. Thank you again.
