Can I apply for asylum with a Schengen visa?

Can I apply for asylum in any EU country while having a schengen visa? I’m applying for a schengen visa from the embassy of Malta. Can I apply for asylum in any country other than Malta ?

The answer is - Yes, you can apply for asylum. It looks like the country who issues you the visa would also be responsible for your asylum case (Malta).

So it will not be possible for me to apply for asylum in any other EU country since my visa is from Malta.

Dear @Hassoni, What the thread and my sources are saying is that it is possible that - if you applied for asylum in a different EU-country but Malta issued you the visa- they will decline your application, as they don't feel responsible for your case. Dublin III applies then.
