Naming a child in Germany

Good morning wefugees team, please  I'm here  to know if it true that , here in Germany a newborn babies does not berries their father's name. A friend of mine told me , a baby born in Germany only name after the mother but not the last name of the father and it got me confused. So please I'm here to know more about it. Thanks and I wish to get answer soon .

Dear @Denny28, thank you for using our platform and contributing to the community. As for your questions: 1. If you are married and have the same surename the child gets it as well. 2. If you are holding different surenames but hold "Gemeinsames Sorgerecht" shared custady then you both can decide which one the child should get. 3. If you are not holding shared custady then name of the mother will be taken for the child- however you have the chance to change that afterwards as well.
