Hello everyone. My family has arrived few days back through the reunification-program. I went to register my son who was studying 11 grade in Syria in the school here in Hamburg (17 years old) but they told me they can't accept him in the school but only can join the "berufsschule". My son was very good in school and his is not interested in the "berufsschule". In this case, what is the solution? do you think it is fare? We are little bit lost and don't know how this will go in the future. And in case there isn't any solution but to go into berufsschule, can we bring him to a private school if we found any funding source? Please advice. Nadim #berufsschule #education #school

Hello @Nadim,

Did you find the answer of your question?

It has been 10 months, so I thought of first asking you.
Just in short: your son should be able to attend Gymnasium, if he has school certificates from Syria.

We wish you and your son all the best.

Thank you for the follow up. Unfortunately, In our case, my son had to continue in berufsschule even-though we had all the official certificates. I don't know why in details but we had to give up...

Dear Nadim,

Thanks for your message and your interest in Kiron for your son. I want to explain Kiron, so that you have a better idea of what we can offer you. Kiron is a non-profit organization that helps refugees all over the world gain access to higher education. We work with existing open online courses such as Coursera, Edx, Iversity, and Udacity to provide you with the opportunity to start your Bachelor’s degree from anywhere, but we are NOT an official university. We are based in four focus countries: Germany, France, Jordan and Turkey.

The Kiron study phase is divided into online and offline studies, a blended learning approach. There are 4 career tracks: Business, Engineering, Computer Science and Social Sciences. The first 1-2 years of your studies are self paced, online courses that you can access on the online platform, and then after you complete the required 60 ECTS credits, we will help you transfer into one of our partner universities so that you can complete the remaining 2 years there, in an offline setting. Courses that are marked as recommended courses on the Kiron Platform will most probably be accredited by our partner universities. Throughout year 1&2 you also have to focus on learning English & the language of the partner university where you want to transfer to. German level B2 (or even C1, depending on the university) for example will be required to enter a partner university in Germany.

To apply at a partner university you will have to pass a language test, provide high school and other documents & complete certain exams. Some universities ask for further entry qualifications. Don’t worry about that yet, we will help you with that later on. Once you have been accepted at a partner university, the credits from your online courses will be accepted and depending on how many you have finished successfully you might finish your Bachelor within less than 4 years overall.

Yes, I thought you wanted to know the general overview of Kiron but it seems that your son is rather looking for something else. I would advise you to continue looking for more options. Kiron is more for university.
Hi @Nadim, Everything is fine with the category. We're now looking for some more experts to counsel you. I'll get back to you as soon I can find some advise or solution to you problem. So far my reasearch haven't produced any alternative but let's keep looking
Many thanks @Paolo, I will wait for your feedback. Also I am asking and doing research at the same time and I will share if I found any. because this worries us as we didn't understand why
Hi @Nadim , please update us if you get to know more. I cannot promise you an answer, so keepiing on researching by yourself as well is the best thing to do. I'll keep you posted if I get any news.
Still no update. I was forced to put my son in Berufschule despite his interest because he can't stay without school. So we had no choice. our efforts go to the next school year to see what we can do!
I also found no solution so far. This is extremely annoying, and I think that in the meanwhile a good option would be focusing extra-curricular activities and work out a way to get something out of this year with the professors in the school. Perhaps through a dialogua with the teachers a good educative path can be found. Thank you very much for your update. Let's keep an eye and a ear open for more info! best of luck and success for your son! @nadim

Hello Nadim,

I am 16 years old and same is happening to me.They said me I can not go in gymnasium despite having the best grades. The reasons are my age and my knowledge of German.I dont speak german and that is the main reason.

My family and me are very confused and disappointed,we dont know what to do.

Can you please answer what happend to your son. Answer please,we really dont know what to do.

You should go to German language school for Young's. Those classes prepare you for school. Without any language skills definitely they won't take you in. Young people can learn a language very fast. Go to a school for a year, you'll be fluent in no time. Enjoy your school years.
