Dear @Malcolm,
Welcome to the Wefugees Community and thank you for reaching out to us again.
I am sorry to hear that the visa was rejected and hope you can find an alternative way to be together again. What was the reason for the rejection? Did you get married after you left your country of origin? Were you supported by a lawyer in this matter?
If your husband applies for a Schengen visa (to visit) or a national visa (to study or work), there should not be a consequence for your own residence permit. I am afraid that it will not be easy for him to obtain the short-term visa after the rejection of the family unification visa though. The embassy might expect him to **** for another way to stay in Germany. He will also be required to prove sufficient financial security or someone in Germany needs to provide a declaration of commitment. "Handbook Germany" is giving more information on this topic here.
Once again, I really cross my fingers for you and your family and don't hesitate to get back to us.
All the best,
Meike
