My name is Davidson Mbah, and I am writing to inquire about the steps I need to take to maintain my refugee status in Germany.

I am currently residing in Thailand under refugee status, with the refugee number 815-xxxxx or 815-xxxx. On May 23, 2023, I traveled to Germany to pursue my studies. While I am grateful for the opportunity to continue my education in Germany, I am also concerned about the status of my refugee status and what measures I need to undertake to ensure its continuation.

Could you please provide guidance on the specific procedures or requirements I need to fulfill to maintain my refugee status while residing in Germany? Additionally, I would appreciate any information regarding documentation or forms that I may need to submit to the appropriate authorities.

Furthermore, if there are any updates or changes in policies regarding refugee status maintenance in Germany, I would be grateful to receive such information to ensure compliance.

Thank you very much for your attention to this matter. I **** forward to your response and guidance on how to proceed. Should you require any further information from my end, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best regards

Hi @Davidson

Firstly, as this is a public forum, I kindly request you remove the personal information you have provided here for your own safety.

We can only provide information on people in Germany who have a refugee status from Germany and to some extent from other EU countries. As far as I know, your Thai refugee status does not have any legal standing according to German immigration law and your status here is solely as a student.

I assume you have been registered with the UNHCR in Thailand and been given your status by that organisation. In that case, it is the UNHCR in Thailand who are best able to answer your query.

Here is their contact information:

Alternatively, the UNHCR office in Germany may be able to help you:

I recommend first, however, contacting the Thai office as it is that office which has provided you with the refugee status.

Best,

Éanna
