Can you please explain what a "sojourner" is? There are probably quite a lot of users on Wefugees that are not familiar with the Italian asylum system.
Apart from that, I would recommend to get in contact with your local registry office in Italy and ask them about the requirements you two need to fulfil. They are the ones that can give you valid advice in this regard.
